Making an Outdoor Wedding a Success

An outdoor wedding can be the perfect way to meld a love for the outdoors with saving on the cost of renting an indoor venue for your ceremony. Having a wedding outside can make for a memorable opportunity, however; this occasion should be memorable for the right reasons rather than the wrong. To make sure that you are prepared and have thought out whether you really want an outdoor wedding, there are some major factors to consider before making a decision.

Weather at the wedding

The weather can make or break an outdoor ceremony. Of course no one wants it to rain on their wedding day, but being prepared for a rainy wedding can turn your day into a shining success. Having a back up plan, such as a readily available tent or an inside area for people to gather and mingle during a downpour can be perfect backup plans in the event of rain.

But a soggy outdoor wedding isn’t the only weather issue to consider when planning your outdoor wedding. It is a good idea to scope out the location before the actual wedding day. This can help in planning for sun and lighting angles for photographs and determine temperature levels. You don’t want you and your guests baking in the sun or shivering in the shadows.

Choose a terrain for your wedding

While it might seem like a wonderful idea to have your wedding on a sandy beach or on a scenic hilltop, you must consider the logistics of such an endeavor. You must balance your desire for a visually spectacular ceremony with the needs of your guests. Long walks or traversing difficult terrain such as hills or sand can make it difficult for older guests, guests with wheelchairs or walkers, or those with small children. Therefore, it is important to consider not only your needs, but also the comfort level of those attending your outdoor wedding.

What kind of catering for my wedding?

If you are planning an outdoor wedding reception, there are several important factors to consider, not the least of which is temperature. Make sure chafing dishes are available to keep food covered and warm (or cold) and fresh, especially when planning for a longer ceremony or one held in extreme temperatures.

It is also important to remember the bug factor. All that food is bound to attract a few insects, especially during the summer months. It is therefore important to ensure the caterer keeps foods covered until it is ready to be served. Using candles that repel bugs and having bug spray available for guests can also keep pests away and make your outdoor wedding a special occasion for everyone.
